While a Gollum prequel would be tragic, it might be time for a different take on Lord of the Rings. Then, when he found the Ring, the prequel could show his slow and tragic change into Gollum while society pushed him away. By exploring Gollum's life before the Ring, Embracer Group could give fans a chance to experience Smeagol as he was before evil took hold of him. However, Bilbo came and "stole" the One Ring from him, so Gollum was forced to exit his self-made prison in search of the thieving "Baggins." Peter Jackson's LOTR movies did a nice, quick summary of Smeagol finding the One Ring and transforming into Gollum, but it could be more fleshed out in a prequel of sorts. Eventually, he abandoned society and lived under the Misty Mountains for nearly five centuries, where he would have stayed indefinitely. The One Ring corrupted him mentally and physically until he became the creature known as Gollum. So, he brutally killed his cousin and made off with his "Precious." Its power immediately took hold of Smeagol, and he decided that he wanted it for himself. He and his cousin were out on a fishing trip when they discovered the cursed ring. One day, he found Sauron's Ring, and that changed his life forever. Once upon a time, Gollum was a Stoor Hobbit called Smeagol. Gollum was a major player in The Lord of the Rings, but it's his early history that warrants more attention.
